Frequently asked questions

What is HerCycle?

HerCycle is a cycle and pregnancy tracking app built for men — husbands, boyfriends, and expecting dads. It tells you exactly where your partner is in her cycle or pregnancy every day, explains what that means, and gives you one daily mission so you always know how to show up.

How do I set up the app?

When you first open HerCycle, you'll go through a short onboarding flow. You'll choose between Cycle Mode and Pregnancy Mode, then enter your partner's last period start date or her due date. That's it — no account, no sign-up, no email required.

Does my partner need to use the app?

No. HerCycle is designed for you, not her. You enter the details once during setup and the app does the rest. She never needs to download it or interact with it.

Can I switch between Cycle Mode and Pregnancy Mode?

Yes. Go to Settings and you'll find the option to switch modes. Note that Cycle Mode and Pregnancy Mode cannot be active at the same time — switching will move you fully into the selected mode.

How does HerCycle calculate the cycle phase?

HerCycle uses your partner's last period start date and average cycle length to calculate which of the four phases she is currently in — Menstrual, Follicular, Ovulatory, or Luteal. As you log more cycles over time, the app refines its predictions using her personal average.

What are the four cycle phases?

The Menstrual phase is the period itself, typically days 1–5. The Follicular phase follows as the body prepares to ovulate, typically days 6–13. The Ovulatory phase is the fertile window around day 14. The Luteal phase is the second half of the cycle leading back to the next period, typically days 15–28. Every woman's cycle is different — HerCycle adapts to her personal pattern over time.

How do I log a new period?

On the home screen, tap 'Log Update' to record when her period starts. Keeping this up to date helps HerCycle improve its phase predictions over time.

What if her cycle is irregular?

HerCycle handles irregular cycles by calculating a rolling average from the cycles you've logged. The more cycles you log, the more accurate the predictions become. If her cycle varies significantly, the app will reflect that uncertainty in its estimates.

How do I set up Pregnancy Mode?

During onboarding, select Pregnancy Mode and enter her due date. If you don't know the exact due date yet, you can enter it later in Settings once you have it from her doctor.

What does Pregnancy Mode show me?

Pregnancy Mode shows you the current week of pregnancy, which trimester she's in, how many weeks remain until the due date, what's happening developmentally this week, how she may be feeling, and a daily mission tailored to where she is in the journey. You can also log Moments — milestones, measurements, and notes — and use the contraction timer when the time comes.

How does the contraction timer work?

Open the contraction timer from the home screen in Pregnancy Mode. Tap Start when a contraction begins and Stop when it ends. HerCycle tracks the duration and frequency of contractions so you have accurate information to share with your medical team.

What is the Moments log?

The Moments log is a private journal for the pregnancy journey. You can record milestones like the first kick, measurements from appointments, and personal notes. These are stored on your device and never shared.

What is a Daily Mission?

Every day HerCycle gives you one specific action to take — matched to where your partner is in her cycle or pregnancy. Not a list, not vague advice. One thing to do today. Missions reset every 24 hours.

How do I complete a mission?

Once you've done it, tap 'Mark Complete' on the mission card. Your streak increments and the mission is logged. You can view past completed missions in the mission history.

Why did my streak reset?

Streaks reset if you don't mark a mission complete before midnight. If you completed the mission but forgot to mark it, you can tap 'Mark Complete' at any point during that day — missions don't expire until the day ends.

What subscription plans are available?

HerCycle Pro is available as a weekly plan ($1.99/week), monthly plan ($5.99/month), yearly plan ($34.99/year), or a one-time lifetime purchase ($89.99). All plans give you the same full Pro access.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On iPhone: go to your iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → HerCycle → Cancel Subscription. On Android: go to Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → HerCycle → Cancel. HerCycle does not manage billing directly — all subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google.

Can I transfer my purchase to a new phone?

Yes. Install HerCycle on your new phone, open it, go to Settings, and tap 'Restore Purchases'. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you used to purchase, your Pro access will be restored at no charge.

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by HerCycle directly. For Apple purchases, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google Play purchases, visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. We're unable to process refunds on our end.

Where is my data stored?

Everything is stored locally on your device. HerCycle has no backend, no servers, and no cloud sync. Your partner's cycle and pregnancy data never leaves your phone.

Does HerCycle share my data with anyone?

No. HerCycle does not sell, share, or transmit your personal data to third parties. The app works entirely offline. See our full privacy policy at gethercycle.com/privacy.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

Deleting the app removes all locally stored data permanently. There is no cloud backup, so this cannot be recovered. If you plan to reinstall, consider this before deleting.

Does HerCycle use my location?

No. HerCycle never requests or uses your location.

How do I turn notifications on or off?

On iPhone: go to iPhone Settings → scroll to HerCycle → Notifications → toggle on or off. On Android: go to Android Settings → Apps → HerCycle → Notifications. You can also manage notification preferences inside the HerCycle app under Settings.

What notifications does HerCycle send?

HerCycle sends daily mission reminders, phase change alerts when her cycle moves into a new phase, and period predictions a few days before her next expected period. All notifications are local — nothing is sent from a server.

The phase shown doesn't seem right.

Phase calculations are based on the last period start date and average cycle length you entered. If the date was entered incorrectly, go to Settings and update her last period date. The phase will recalculate immediately.

The app crashed or isn't loading correctly.

First, make sure you're running the latest version of HerCycle from the App Store or Google Play. If the issue persists, force-quit the app and reopen it. Still stuck? Email us at support@gethercycle.com and include your device model and iOS/Android version — we'll get back to you quickly.

I can't find a feature I'm looking for.

HerCycle keeps everything on the home screen — there's no tab bar or hidden navigation. Most actions are available by scrolling down or tapping cards on the home screen. If you're looking for something specific and can't find it, email support@gethercycle.com and we'll help.
