Who we are

HerCycle is a mobile application developed and operated by Purple Softworks ("we", "us", "our"). We are based in South Africa.

The short version

What data we collect

Data you provide directly

All of the following is stored exclusively on your device and never transmitted to our servers:

• Partner's first name — used only within the app to personalise tips and reminders. Optional.
• Cycle information — last period date, cycle length, period duration. Used to calculate phase predictions.
• Pregnancy information — due date or last menstrual period date. Used to calculate pregnancy week.
• Important dates — birthdays, anniversaries. Used to schedule reminders.
• Tasks — items you add manually.
• Cravings — optional notes you add.
• Pregnancy moments — measurements, milestones, and journal notes you log.

Data collected automatically

• App usage analytics — we use PostHog to collect anonymous usage data such as which screens are visited, which features are used, and how often. This data does not include any health information, names, or personally identifiable information.
• Crash reports — if the app crashes, we may collect technical diagnostic information to help fix the issue.
• Device information — device type, operating system version, and app version. Used for debugging and compatibility.

Data we do not collect

• We do not collect, process, or store any health data on our servers. Ever. All health data stays on your device.
• We do not collect your partner's name beyond displaying it within the app on your device.
• We do not collect location data.
• We do not collect contact lists or any data from other apps on your device.
• We do not operate user accounts. There is no registration, no login, no cloud backup.

How we use your data

Where your data is stored

All data is stored exclusively on your device using local storage (SQLite). Nothing is transmitted to our servers. We do not operate cloud storage or databases for user data.

If you delete the app or lose your device, your data is permanently lost. We have no copy of it and cannot restore it. We recommend backing up your device regularly using iCloud or Google backups, which will include the app's local data.

We use the following third-party services:

We do not use Facebook, Google Analytics, Supabase, or any advertising networks.

Health data

HerCycle processes information relating to menstrual cycles and pregnancy. We take the sensitivity of this data seriously.

• We do not sell health data under any circumstances.
• Health data is not shared with advertisers, data brokers, or any commercial third parties.
• Health data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers.
• We do not use health data to train machine learning models.

This app is not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice. Cycle predictions are estimates based on historical data and should not be relied upon for medical decisions, contraception, or fertility treatment.

Notifications

We use locally scheduled notifications on your device. These notifications are generated by your device based on your data — they do not require sending your data to our servers.

You can disable all notifications at any time in your device Settings → Notifications → HerCycle.

Your rights

All users:

• Access — all your data is visible within the app at any time. There is no data held elsewhere to access.
• Delete — delete all your data from within the app (Settings → Delete all data). This is immediate and permanent. Because we hold no copies, deletion is complete.
• Portability — your data is stored in a standard local database on your device.

EU/UK residents (GDPR):

• Right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability.
• Right to object to processing.
• Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
• Note: because all personal and health data is stored on-device only, most GDPR obligations relating to server-side data do not apply to HerCycle's core functionality. The only data we hold about you is anonymous analytics.

California residents (CCPA):

• Right to know what data is collected and how it is used.
• Right to delete personal information. (Handled entirely on-device via Settings → Delete all data.)
• Right to opt out of the sale of personal information. (We do not sell personal information.)
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

To exercise any of these rights or ask questions, contact us at support@hercycle.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

• On-device data — stored on your device indefinitely until you delete the app or choose "Delete all data" in Settings. We hold no copy of this data.
• Anonymous analytics data — retained by PostHog for 24 months and then deleted.
• Crash reports — retained for 90 days.
• Purchase records — retained by RevenueCat and Apple/Google in accordance with their policies.

Children

HerCycle is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will advise on removal from the device.

Changes to this policy

We will notify you of significant changes to this policy by:

• Displaying a notice in the app before the change takes effect.
• Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
